Lightroom Not Responding

I am currently running Lightroom (subscription) on an iMac with macOS Sequoia 15.2; Lr and OS are up to date. Lr fails to respond when trying to open and I get the hypnotic spinning color wheel. Eventually I have to force quit. Restarting the computer, even disconnecting it from power before restarting helps inconsistently.

 

The same issue occurs with Creative Cloud and I have to go to the uninstall-repair and repair the app before it will open. Once the Creative Cloud app is repaired it will open and Lr can be opened from the shortcut in Creative Cloud.

 

Any clues as to what the issue is with Lr not playing nicely with the macOS? I'm reluctant to uninstall & reinstall both Creative Cloud and Lr as I understood Lr can be opened without opening the Creative Cloud desktop app as long as I've logged into my account once every 30 days.

Hey, @bobw73418284. Welcome to the Lightroom Community. I'll help you figure this out. 

 

Have you used Lightroom on this machine before? Is this a new machine that you've set up using Migration Assistant? 

If Creative Cloud is also having trouble, the issue could be broader and may need help from our support team.

 

I'll recommend a clean-up.

1 - Use the Creative Cloud Cleaner tool to clean up Creative Cloud & Lightroom: https://adobe.ly/3E6yvkZ

2 - Restart the machine. 

3 - Install the Creative Cloud desktop app using the direct download package: https://adobe.ly/4hMoqsj

4 - Install Lightroom but don't launch yet. 

5 - Ensure Lightroom has the required permissions on macOS: https://adobe.ly/3POjas1;

Yes - I've have been using Lightroom on my iMac for sometime. I had purchased Lightroom v. 6 sometime ago but eventually it was in compatible with Mac OS upgrades, so about a year ago I subscribed to Lightroom with 1 TB of storage. All worked fine until recently.

 

When I turned the iMac off in the evening and then back on in the morning neither Lightroom or Creative Cloud would open; eventually Lightroom opened but I had to repair the Creative Cloud app for it to open. I left the iMac on for several days, it would go to sleep when not in use, and both the Lightroom and Creative Cloud apps opened and worked normally. This morning I powered off the Mac, waited an hour then powered up. Lightroom opened but the Creative Cloud app needed "repair" to open.

 

While I appreciate your guidance, I rarely use the Creative Cloud app and there seem to be too many caveats to using the Creative Cloud Cleanerr, which makes me nervous. I'm not a tech savy user and as long as Lightroom opens and performs normally, even if I have to use a work around to us the Creative Cloud app, I'm a happy photographer. For now, I'll wait and see if Lightroom continues to behave (knock on wood).

 

By the way, when I click on this link for required persmissions  https://adobe.ly/3POjas1, I get the message INVALID PARAMETERS SPECIFIED.
