Lightroom not saving edits

Hi Everyone,

I'm still new to lightroom and getting to grips with the software but understand that it saves progress automatically.

I finished editing a photo and exported as JPG and roughly 5 minutes later the power went out and my PC shut off abrubtly. When I next opened up lightroom the edits were gone from that photo.

I'm just wondering if they are lost for good and if so, is there a setting I can click on so that I can manually save files in the future?

Seems odd that LR doesn't save the edits at the same time as you go to export. I also spent a decent amount of time editing this one photo and the software never saved any progress.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Kev

The way syncing of edits to the cloud works from the Lightroom apps is that the edits are only synced when you move onto a different image, i.e. during the editing process the edits are stored in the local catalog and are only uploaded to the cloud when you either select a different image or you exit the app.

In the situation you describe, it's easy to imagine that you hadn't moved onto a different image before your power failure....so at that point the master catalog in the cloud is unaware of the edits. The issue arises when you restart the app on your PC, because at that point the local catalog would be out of sync with the cloud catalog....but normally the cloud catalog is regarded as the master, so the local catalog would be reset to the same state as the cloud catalog, especially in the event of an unclean shutdown of the local app. What I don't know is if there is supposed to be some code in there which identifies your situation and takes a different course of action. We'd need a response from the Adobe engineering team on that question.

For the future, try to get in the habit of forcing the sync of your edits by switching to a different image when you've done editing an image.

Please state clearly if you were using Lightroom (Lr icon) or Lightroom Classic (LrC icon), and the version NUMBER.

Did you import the photo again? Or did you just open the catalog and see the photo?

Where were you looking that indicated no edits? What did you see that indicated no edits? Please be specific and detailed.

Thank you for replying quickly.

I am using Lightroom (not the classic version) and it's V5.

The album I was last working on auto appeared when I launched the software. I didn't import the photo again.

The edits on the right hand side which would show my masks etc were gone and it's just the original photo.

I really should update the software so it's a fault on my part there, but was hoping for a way to manually save files or get back my edits if it happens again.

Thanks

What does the history panel say for this photo? (Show us a screen capture, use the "Insert Photos" icon to include the screen capture in your reply, do not attach files)
