Question

Lightroom only sees the second SD card in my camera, not the first I normally use?

Running into a weird situation recently and hoping someone can help. I use a CF card in Slot 1 and SD card in Slot 2 on my Sony A7IV, and use simultaneous recording to make sure my photos are saved to both cards. Slot 2 is just a safety back up, I never look at or access the photos on this card, so there’s hundreds if not thousands of photos on that card from the last few months.

Normally I just connect my A7IV directly to my iPad over USB, open Lightroom and import the photos from my CF card, then format it leaving the SD card totally ignored. For the last year, until about three weeks ago, when I connected my camera to the iPad, ONLY the CF card contents in Slot 1 were shown in Lightroom to import. For the past few weeks however, suddenly only the SD back up card in slot 2 is showing in Lightroom and I have to wait several minutes while it indexes the thousands of photos on that card before I can import anything.

Anyone know why suddenly this would happen, or how I can stop it short of removing the SD card before I connect it to my laptop. My previously fast and smooth workflow is now a mess, and not sure what changed that’s causing this behavior.  Same firmware on the camera, and same version of iPadOS, only Lightroom has received any recent updates.

TL;DR - How can I change which card in my camera Lightroom defaults to when importing my photos?

Thanks for any ideas.

What USB Connect Mode do you choose on the camera?

In Window with "Image Transfer (MTP)" the camera only shows one card in Lightroom.  If I use "Image Transfer (MSC)" the camera shows both cards if I have them plugged in and lets me pick one.  I find the second is faster by a lot.  Do you have a similar choice with iPad?

Hello @Tarekith

Is the native Photos.app able to see contents of both SD cards for your connected camera?  Lightroom can only display what the iOS platform reveals to the app.  Generally if something works in Photos or Files apps, it should also work in Lightroom.  If Lightroom actually behaves worse, please let me know and I will log a bug.

I just tested this, and the photos app on the ipad only sees the 1st card like I want, the second card is not showing up.  So it looks like this is some kind of regression in Lightroom.  Thanks for you help!
