Lightroom/Photoshop round trip fails to import to Lightroom

A routine that used to work, now doesn't. "Edit in Photoshop" from Lr, save and close file, the edited file doesn't reopen in Lightroom anymore. I attempted a workaround by importing the saved file to Lightroom from TemporaryEdits but it fails to copy when I import. Import fails from any location in my directory I copy/paste the image. Lightroom "Add" functionality is broken. I have the latest version of all software. A Windows update may be the cause but I think the import into Lr is at fault.

    What issue are you experiencing exactly? The OP mentioned a couple of issues, possibly related but not necessarily so....so what is the problem you are seeing. Please provide details, along with you Lightroom version number and the OS that you are running.

    No, I'm having no problems at all when adding photos or using the Edit in Photoshop process. That's on both Windows and Mac systems.

    "Failed to Copy" might be an issue with the specified location for original images. What location do you have specified in the Preferences>Local Storage tab? Is it an external drive, and if so what type of drive is that?

     

    Also, please confirm the actual version number of Lightroom (Help menu>System Info).

    Images fail to import from all my drives, internal and external. So far only Ligtroom is affected. I rolled back the version of Lightroom to the one previous. But this made no difference so updated to the current version again. The screen shot shows the message received for all attempts with diverse images from various drives. This is a new phenomenon. I did not have this trouble a month ago when I used Lightroom to both import photos and to edit in Photoshop. This is why I expected the roll back to work, but it didn't.

    Yes, the first image was sent to photoshop from lightroom. There are two in the stack already, and no, there was no further addition to the stack after the image was edited, saved, and closed. The third image shows the TemporaryEdit directory where it was saved. I opened the file from that location but got a "failed to copy" message each time. Have since tried to import any image file into Lightroom and always get the same failure message. It seems like the import functionality in Lightroom is broken. I've done the round trip thousands of times and the Add scores of times, and this is the first time they just don't work. Can you import via the Add functionality on your computer? I'm using the lastest software according to Creative Cloud.

    I'm not sure what the first two images (Capture 1 and Capture 2) are meant to be showing us, but the expected outcome after saving and closing the file in PS is that the returning Tiff is stacked with the original, i.e. it is not automatically "reopened" in Lightroom. Now if the image in the Capture 1 screenshot is the original file that you sent to PS, note that it is currently part of a stack of 2 images. Have you expanded that stack to reveal the other image? And is it the "missing" Tiff from PS?
