Question

Lightroom randomly edits my photos

After I’m done editing my photos, I will review my edits from the beginning. But Lightroom has this bug where some photos will be randomly rotated. I’ll fix the rotatation. But even then, when I export the photos, some will still get random rotations. Meaning I have to go through multiple reviews to fix the rotations.

It’s not just the rotations. Some edit like exposure, crop, masking etc. get randomly applied too. Seems like some are copied form a different photos. It gets worse. Sometimes I can’t just fix the edits because multpile photos seem to have auto sync. So when I fix one photo, another photo gets “fixed”. I’ll do all sorts of stuff like restart lightroom, reset edits, copy/paste from another photo etc. Some photos become unsuable because of this. I litarally have to decide which photos to not edit.

Please help. I am being paid to take photos. I can’t give my client bad edits because of buggy lightroom. And it’s very time consuming to review hundreds of photos multiple times. It’ll affect my business.

Hey, @daltontan. Welcome to the Lightroom Community. I'll need more information to help you figure this out.

What troubleshooting steps have you tried already? Please share more details about your workflow and the system info from Lightroom. Go to Help > System info, copy and paste it into a text document, then upload and attach it here along with a few screenshots or a short video. Right now, the information I have is too limited to help you.

 With specific edits and workflows, you can end up triggering the following issues: https://adobe.ly/42Go013

Please check if this matches what you see.

Thanks!

@Sameer K

Here’s a video showing one of the many wierd edits that happens https://drive.google.com/file/d/1LW2M6Fo3GR-rCCwZhLUD59qLl-RrocqP/view?usp=drive_link. In this video, I found that some photos were underexposed after I have sent the photos to my client. It seems like the settings from the couple photos were synced over to the next 2 photos. You can see me going back and forth to ensure the photos have the correct exposure. And you see it being set twice to 0 instead of staying at +0.1. Btw, this is after I have reviewed and fixed the entire album 4 times! It’s ridiculous and embarassing.

Edit: I got the issue again. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1gxoExAHGNqWvL_wl3ujovdJCyvlhBBK4/view?usp=sharing

This time you will see the image rotate by itself. The exposures are also synced between the 2 photos and I can’t edit them separately.

As for the issue you shared, mine seems different. The main one being that the edits happen by themselves to my entire album, not just the current/next/previous photos. It happens to something like 5 out of 100 photos.

Now lightroom is corrupting my photo metadata, and unediting too! After I opening lightroom I found 10+ photos with random edits, and exif data that is totally wrong e.g. captured date is 1 week older. Also about 10+ photos got unedited and I have to go through the all the unedited photos and edit them again 😭. I think the edits were synced from another album. Feels like lightroom is going to destroy all my photos now 😖.

I tried to change lightroom to an older version. We’ll see how this goes. This issue was not happening a few weeks ago, I think.

@Sameer K are you from adobe? Would apprceciate if you could file this as a bug report. I’ve been using lightroom for many years, so it’s quite unlikely a user error.

Thank you.
