Lightroom reports that local storage (external ssd) "contains no editable files".

Question

For the past 8 months, I've been using an external ssd for all my photo storage and editing. But as of LR 7, I receive a terse and unhelpful report that "This folder does not contain editable files". If I drill down into the folder structure, (original->year->day), then LR sees the file and allows me to edit. I've tried everything to bring my previous workflow back, but to no avail.

im having same issue, i can not access my backup originals on my external ssd from the "local" tab in Lightroom.  its like it cant see them
