Lightroom sync: Ignore folders

Hello LR Community

I have the following Setup and workflow

• 8TB HDD
• MacBook with LR Classic
• iPad with LR Mobile

My LR Catalog is stored on the Mac while most of the photos are on the HDD. Due to memory reasons, I just keep the lastest photos on the Mac, mostly from the current year. When I'm traveling, I want to import photos to the iPad first, pre-edit them there, upload them to the Creative Cloud and download them back home to the Mac to further editing in LR Classic.

The problem is on the Mac, there it looks that I can only sync all Photos from the Creative Cloud (nerly 1TB) to LR Classic or non of them, which requires to always have my HDD connected and set the sync folder to it.

Is there a way to sync only photos of certain folders (the latest once) to my LR Classic and keep the rest in the cloud?
