Lightroom will not find any images on external drives

I cannot for the life of me get any images stored on any of my external hard drives to show for import into Lightroom, even with the include subfolders checked. WHAT THE HECK AM I DOING WRONG?!?!?!?!

This is a Lightroom-Classic question.

I am no Mac expert, but notice a couple of points-

What happens if you disconnect the 'EOS Digital' device (camera?) and restart the Import dialog?

Have you given external drives full permissions? FULL DISK ACCESS PERMISSIONS

On occassions (I have read), simply changing the Import method to 'COPY' (with a Destination selected) and then change back again to 'ADD' will then find images.
