Question

LR (8.3.1.) cannot open photos in Photoshop (Mac OS Sequoia 15.5)

Since about 2 weeks (maybe since a recent PS update), I can't send a photo from LR to Photoshop for editing (using the built in menu option 'edit in Photoshop' when right-clicking a photo in my LR catalog).

This is a very recent problem (always used to work) and maybe it started with a recent update of PS/LR (I can't tell exacly when it started.

The error message tells me to check the Mac OS system settings (I am translating from German, it's supposedly in the security/automatization section of MacOS.). However, in that section of the Mac's system settings, there' only an empty window.

I uninstalled both LR and PS, but that did not help. Curiously Photoshop's access to the LR catalog works fine, I can see my photos in Photoshop and open them directly in PS.

Since my normal workflow is to develop in LR and retouch in PS (and then save back to LR), this is annoying. Any ideas what I could do?

LR, PS and Mac OS: all updated to latest versions as of May 22, 2025.

Hi @Wolfgang25165601a75l

Thanks for sharing those details—it definitely sounds frustrating, especially since it’s interrupting your usual workflow between Lightroom and Photoshop.

Based on your description, this seems to be related to system permissions.
The first thing I’d suggest is updating Photoshop to the latest version 26.7, which was released just yesterday, as it may include relevant fixes.

If the issue persists after updating, please share a screenshot of the error message so we can better understand and assist you further.

Regards,

Srishti

Hello Srishti,
thank you for trying to help me. I already did update Photoshop before I posted my problem, so I have version 26.7 (and also the very latest Mac OS ist installed).

When I click on "edit in Photoshop", I get the error message that I attached here. It's in German, so let me translate:
"Editing in Photoshop failed"
Lightroom is not allowed to use Photoshop. Make sure you have given permission to Lightroom under "System settings" -> security and privacy settings -> Automatisation.

But under that menu item in Mac OS System settings, there is no entry at all (see screenshot).
Any ideas how to fix this? Uninstalling both LR and PS and reinstallling did not help.

Hey @Wolfgang25165601a75l

Sorry to hear that work. May I ask you to try uninstalling and reinstalling Photoshop? Check out this response provided here: https://adobe.ly/3H8cdkw
