LR does not recognise .ORF (RAW) files taken in sequence. Classic does.

Lightroom can open a .ORF file, but cannot open the next .ORF photo taken a couple of seconds later and all the subsequent photos on the SD card. LR cannot open many of the earlier .ORF files on the SD card. LR shows an incorrect date and time on the files that it cannot import.

LR Classic can open and modify all the photos including those that do not open in LR. Files that cannot be opened in LR can be saved in LR Classic but are still not able to be viewed or imported into LR.

Perhaps something is corrupted in the files that Classic doesn't look at?

@graeme_h which Classic version are you using and which iOS clients (and version) are you seeing this problem on? If you are on macOS please let us know which version you are using there too.

It's not clear to me if you have a problem importing these images or just opening them from Lightroom mobile on iOS.
