LrC to Lr-Cloud migration failed

I’d like to migrate from LrC to Lr in the cloud.

My catalog has about 65.000 photos.

Migration failed after 30% of migration process - frozen screen.

I had to restart my Mac and started again.

Now the migration is running already 5 days.

Nothing changed the last 3 days. Lr is synching with the cloud, no other message or status indicator. Lr shows a total number of 58.800 photos although no previews can be seen on the right side. Regarding the total number 6.200 photos are missing. The names of the albums appear on the left side but every album has 0 photos.

Is there any way to do the migration process again although Lr migrates a catalog only once? Any recommendations how to proceed?

Newest versions of SW are installed: LrC V.12,  LR V.6, iMac OS Version Ventura.

My internal hard drive has enough space (1 TB free).

Thanks for any help.

Correct answer Harry18e

I am on Windows, not Mac; and I never did dig into the exact file; I just deleted the directories. As a result, I do NOT know if the record of the migration is stored in the main preferences or in another file stored in the same location.

In Windows, it is the following: C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom CC and C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\local\Adobe\Lightroom CC

From Victoria B. Here is her directions to wipe the preference file:

https://www.lightroomqueen.com/how-do-i-reset-lightrooms-preferences/

If following her directions, LrD still does not let you run migration again. You may need to delete more files in the Library or delete the Adobe LrD Library completely.

Good luck!

Tim

Many thanks - but finally I decided to go back to Lightroom Classic. Having invested a lot of time already I prefer to be back on dry land.

Welcome to the Lightroom Community. I'll help you with this.

What is the total size of all the 65000 photos on your Lightroom Classic catalog? Lightroom desktop copies the originals temporarily to the local drive & over time, as they are backed up to the cloud, Lightroom may remove these large, original files and replace them with smaller smart previews to save disk space. However, this initial copy operation can require a lot of space. Apart from the originals, ample storage will still be needed for the smart previews, so we must account for that too.

Check these possible errors page related to the migration from Lightroom Classic to Lightroom: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-cc/kb/migration-errors.html

Thanks!

Hello Sameer, thanks for helping. The total size of the 65.000 photos is about 300 GB. So the 1TB free space on my internal hard drive should be sufficient. I checked the page regarding possible errors related to migration but could find no new hint solving the issue. Is there no way to start everything again so that I really get all photos into the cloud? How can I go forward? Best regards Harald

Yes, there are two steps.

1. Log into the web interface and delete your library. Note: this wipes everything! The option to delete is under account info menu item under your account icon.

2. Either use another computer, or wipe the local preferences for LrD. Be careful wiping the preferences for LrD, since you have Classic installed also and you do NOT want to mess up that installation.
