Question

Mac vs iPhone display after export is completely different

On my Mac, the photo I’m editing is white & bright, while on my phone after export, is washed out, dark & orange. I don’t have true tone on, I don’t have reduce white point on, I export on sRBG. My screens aren’t calibrated in any way. I have to keep editing & airdropping the photo to myself to check if it’s how I actually want it to look.

I’ve looked everywhere for a solution & all I’ve gotten is basically “edit blindly, there really isn’t a solution.”

Thanks for checking those! Since Night Shift, True Tone and the Mac's color profile are all ruled out, the remaining difference is coming from the displays themselves — the Mac screen and the iPhone screen are different hardware, and without calibration no setting will make them match exactly. The practical workaround: calibrate the Mac display if you can; otherwise do your final check on the device where the photo will be viewed most (e.g., judge the AirDropped file on your iPhone before sharing).

I was hoping to stop having to send myself airdrops over & over constantly, but this seems to be the only workaround sadly.

No night shift is on :( . The Mac is on default as well. No changes sadly.

Hi! Two uncalibrated displays will simply render the same file differently, so some difference is unavoidable — but "dark & orange" on the iPhone points to a few specific things worth checking:

    - Night Shift on the iPhone (Settings > Display & Brightness). It's separate from True Tone and is the classic cause of a warm/dark shift.

    - On the Mac: System Settings > Displays > Color profile. Make sure it's set to the default profile for your display, not a generic one.

    - Keep viewing the AirDropped file in the Photos app, which is color-managed.

If it's still way off after that, the displays themselves are the limiting factor — calibrating the Mac display is the real fix. Hope that helps!
