Question

Many of my images have incorrect metadata. In some cases, the EXIF shows the wrong camera or lens  or the edits have been reset and in some cases, the dates are wrong.

I'm using Lightroom cloud-native (Mac App Store version 9.2). Across my ~43,000 photo library, random photos are displaying incorrect metadata like the wrong camera/lens combination, incorrect dates, and incorrect edits within Lightroom itself — but exported originals show the correct EXIF dates and camera information.

Hi @InsanelyMarc, Thanks for reaching out! Let’s try a few things and basic troubleshooting techniques.

    1. Verify Metadata Settings: Check the metadata settings in Lightroom to ensure that it is set to display the correct EXIF data. You can do this by navigating to the Metadata panel in the Library module.

    2. Clear Cache: Clear the cache in Lightroom. Sometimes, cached data can lead to display issues. You can do this by going to Preferences > Performance and clicking on the 'Purge Cache' button.

    3. Check Original Files: Ensure that the original files indeed have the correct EXIF data. You can check this using an external tool or software that reads EXIF information.

    4. Reset your Lightroom Preferences: https://adobe.ly/4o7JADQ

If none of these steps work for you, please let us know, and we can continue troubleshooting the issue. I hope this helps! ^CH

@Claire H. Your suggestions refer to Lightroom Classic, but the OP is using Lightroom.

Thank you @Claire H. but @JohanElzenga is correct.

This is in Lightroom not Lightroom Classic. However, I have done similar steps in this version of Lightroom. Cleared the cache and I can export the originals and the EXIF is correct. Furthermore, the images appear in the same way across all devices (Mac, iPad, iPhone, Windows 11) so the problem is unfortunately with my library itself. I have a support case opened with Adobe to investigate.
