Mechanics of migrating from Classic to new CC

I am on the Photography Plan so have 20GB of Cloud space.

My Classic Library is 70,000 photos and video clips using 600GB. So I need the Lightroom plan which has 1TB , but does not inlude Lightroom Classic.

After I have contacted Customer Support to switch from the Photography Plan to the Lightroom CC 1TB plan, Classic will no longer work, but presumably the catalog is still valid?

So when I launch Lightroom CC to migrate from the Classic catalog, does it matter that Lightroom Classic is no longer activated?

I would use the instructions here to migrate:

Any other advice?

Thanks

One safe way forward might be to add 1TB to my current Photography Plan.

Then do the migration with the benefit of having Classic working.

When all is complete switch plan again to the basic Lightroom CC plan.

Once a subscription to Classic stops, only the Develop module is deactivated. The Library functions & catalog will still work. So switching to the LRCC 1TB plan should be sufficient. Note that you will need sufficient disk space to copy all of your files + about 20% extra. This is temporary storage until all originals are in the cloud. So it can be recovered later.

After starting the migration in LRCC, an integrity test will be carried out on your existing Classic catalog so it could be useful to keep Classic temporarily for resolving any conflicts or missing files although you can go ahead and ignor these anyway.

But why not start LRCC as a free trial and switch plans after the migration?

One housekeeping point before starting - if you rely on folders, it could be worthwhile creating a collection for each as folders don’t migrate. Folders in LRCC are  simply organizational tools like collection sets in Classic.

Thanks for the suggestion and info.

I already have the Photography Plan, which includes Lightroom Classic and new CC with 20GB, and have been experimenting with it.

Would the free trial give me the whole 1TB to use for 7 days, so that I would be able to do a full scale migration?

I think if you have already been using LRCC then the 7 day trial will probably not be available. The migration should still be possible but sync will only be possible for 20GB. The remainder would be paused until you upgrade the storage, See link below:
