Metadata not writing to jpgs from Pixel Pro 10

I upgraded my phone to Google Pixel Pro 10 in January 2026. Have imported photos (.jpg) to library and begun to add metadata (titles etc - automatically saved to XMP). I have noticed on file explorer that these metadata are not appearing in the details pane whilst those added to photos from my camera (Sony A7 IV) do. Metadata added to my previous phone photos (Pixel 8) are also saved. When I check Properties, I have also noted that the Pixel 10 photos say they may be blocked as the file came from another computer. Checking the ‘unblock’ box doesn’t change things (and I don’t know how to do this in batch). What’s going on? Also, what’s with the xmp side car files? I am sure there is a simple fix. Search reveals stuff about HDR which I am not using. Please help. Thank you.

    Hello!

The issues you're seeing with your new Pixel Pro 10 are likely tied to a combination of Windows security protocols and how Lightroom Cloud handles metadata for mobile-generated JPEGs. Here is a breakdown of what is happening and how to fix it:

    1. The 'Blocked' File issue (Security)

When Windows says a file is 'blocked because it came from another computer,' it’s a security feature called Zone.Identifier. Since you likely transferred these via a direct cable or a specific cloud sync from your Pixel 10, Windows marks them as 'web-sourced.'

    • Batch Fix: You don't need to do this one by one. Download a small official utility from Microsoft called Streams. Run the command streams -d [Folder_Path] to unblock every file in that folder at once.

    2. Why Metadata isn't appearing in File Explorer

While your Sony A7 IV files might be embedding metadata directly into the header, Lightroom often handles mobile JPEGs by writing to XMP sidecar files instead of the original file to maintain data integrity.

    • The Fix: Windows File Explorer cannot read 'Sidecar' XMP files; it only looks inside the JPEG. In Lightroom, ensure you go to Settings > General and check if there's an option for 'Include Develop settings in metadata'.
    • Pro Tip: If you want the data inside the JPG for Windows to see it, you must Export the photo from Lightroom as a 'Small' or 'Full size' JPEG. The 'Original' file in the cloud remains untouched, which is why your manual edits aren't showing up in the Details pane.

    3. What's with the XMP Sidecars?

Normally, JPEGs embed metadata. However, with newer Pixel 10 files, Google often uses Ultra HDR or Gain Map data (even if you think HDR is off, the container format changed in 2026). To avoid corrupting these complex Google-specific headers, Lightroom safely writes your titles and tags to a separate .xmp file.

    Summary of Action Plan:

    1. Unblock the folder using the 'Streams' utility.
    2. Understand that Lightroom Cloud is non-destructive; it won't write back to your original Pixel JPEGs on your hard drive. You must Export them to 'burn' that metadata into a new file that Windows can read.
