Migrate library to a new account

Hi,
I currently use Lightroom CC (NOT the classic version, but the cloud) through my school account. I’m graduating soon, which means my school email will stop working and I’ll lose access to Adobe software. I would like to continue subscribing to Adobe services using my personal account.

This question has been asked for many years already, so I’m wondering if in 2026, there is finally a way to transfer all Lightroom CC photos, folders, and albums from an educational account to a personal one.

I honestly don’t see any real downside to allowing users to continue using the service seamlessly after graduating. Manually exporting and re-uploading everything is extremely painful, especially when dealing with several years’ worth of photos and limited local storage.

From a user perspective, enabling this would make it much easier to stay with Adobe after school, which seems like a clear win-win.

Thanks in advance for any clarification.

If you have exhausted the options that @Anshul_Saini has suggested and had no luck,

You could try the shared album and contribute route, which hopefully should work, although I haven't tried this in a while, so assuming it still works.

• Create Album on Personal account.
• Enable Sharing for that Album.
• Invite email ID associated to your School account.
• Ensure you give the School account Can Contribute rights.
• Accept email invite associated with School account and sign in to School account
• Add Photos to the Album that’s shared with you from the Personal account.

This will transfer photos over including edits without having to export the photos.

You could transfer all photos to that one Album and sort them from there. However it maybe easier to mirror your Albums in the new account and share each one (although you will have to accept an email for each album).

I thought though I had seen examples of here of Adobe doing this behind the scenes for customers on occasions.

Hi @Tuomas5FCF,

Thanks for raising this, and I completely understand the concern when transitioning off a school account.

To clarify where things stand today:

• As Crummel mentioned, adding a secondary email and switching the primary email can work in some cases
• This depends entirely on how your school manages Adobe IDs, so results can vary

If that option isn’t available to you, these are the only supported paths at the moment:

Student file transfer

• Asset transfer limitations and supported options

Key point to keep in mind:
• Lightroom cloud libraries are tied to the Adobe ID itself, not just the subscription
• Once a school account is deactivated, Adobe Support cannot migrate cloud libraries to another Adobe ID

If your school account is still active, I recommend trying the email switch approach as soon as possible, as that’s the least disruptive option if it works for you.

Best regards,
Anshul Saini

Try to add a secondary email additional to your primary email (which is your Adobe ID). Then use the button "change" behind your primary email to switch the two emails around.
