Since updating to Ligthroom 8.4, some of my pictures are not shown in "All photos" and anywhere else. When I select a specific date in "By date" menu, some dates are not showing all the pictures. See screenshot attached.

Version: Lightroom 8.4 20250603-0500-10f89fb Build

OS: Windows

Overall I have 1000 pictures missing for the year 2021, which is really worrying for me.

Correct answer Antonin6C15

I've just made an experiment and it seems to be linked to the update to version 8.4.

I reinstalled lightroom 8.3.1 from the Creative Cloud app and my pictures are all showing correctly :

But after, I reinstalled ligthroom 8.4, and 1000 pictures are missing again :

So I will keep using ligthroom 8.3.1 for the moment, until a fix is available.

Hey, @Antonin6C15. Welcome to the Lightroom Community. I'll need more info to help you figure this out.

Does this happen with specific sets of images? Please log in to Lightroom Web (https://adobe.ly/3HQ444r) & check if the images appear correctly on Lightroom Web. If the images appear on Lightroom Web, try to search for them on Lightroom desktop by their names and verify if they appear as a search result and are only 'missing' from the By Date arrangement.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks!

Hi @Sameer K and @Julie Kmoch ,

Thank you for the quick reply.

All images appear correctly on Lightroom Web and even Mobile.

I have tried restarting the desktop app multiple times, as well as my computer, but nothing change.

I tried to search for them by their filename on Lightroom desktop but nothing is found (other files are showing in results but because they have the same file name).

They are not showing in my album neither :

I noticed it is exactly 1000 images missing, all in 2021, but randomly spread across months, dates and albums. I don't have any album or folder that contains these 1000 images specifically neither.

Thank you for your help.

Do you think the missing 1,000+ files might all have names duplicated elsewhere in the catalog? You don't need to check them all, but if there are several, that could be an important clue for us.

Hi @Julie Kmoch ,

I checked and almost all my files (around 100 000 pictures) in my catalog have duplicated filenames, including these 1000 pictures, so I don't think that was the problem.

But I managed to solve the problem on my side yesterday, after a few attempts :

I first tried to update (from v8.3.1) to the new version 8.5 and the 1000 pictures were still missing. So I decided to uninstall Lightroom through Creative Cloud and reinstall (v8.5). After that, the files were still missing.

On a last resort, I decided to perform a clean install. I uninstalled it first, then erased completely the Lightroom CC folder in AppData (C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Adobe\Lightroom CC). I have never cleaned that folder before, so it dates back from 2019 when I first installed Lightroom on my computer (version 4.x, I can't remember the exact version). After reinstall (v8.5), and waiting for synchronisation, all my pictures are correctly showing.

So it seems to me that the problem was linked to old data saved in Lightroom CC folder, becoming uncompatible since v8.4.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to reproduce the bug as I went too fast and deleted completely the old Lightroom CC folder instead of keeping a copy somewhere on my computer.
