Mobile devices and Lightroom CC

Question: Suppose I "migrate" (say) 100 raw photos to Lightroom CC, which are then uploaded to the cloud. Suppose each raw file is 25MB, so that the total storage space is 100x25=2500MB or 2.5GB. Now there is 2.5GB of photo files in the cloud. I can now access these 100 photos on my iPhone or iPad. Have they been DOWNLOADED to my iPhone/iPad? In other words, is there 2.5GB of photo files now on my iPhone or iPad? If not, what exactly is going on?

The short answer is no, they haven‘t been downloaded. They will only be accessed when you view or perform an edit.

Furthermore, in the LrCC iOS preferences (tap the Lr Logo) you can turn ‘Only Download Smart Previews’ on and these lower res versions may be good enough for the tasks you want to perform.

Even if you did download originals, the application should be intelligent enough to know if you haven’t accessed one recently and not hold it locally anymore. There is also a Clear Cache command to reduce any locally stored originals.

For instance I have about 90GB in the Cloud (albeit mostly jpg) and the space taken up on my iPhone and iPad is less than 1GB.
