Moving files from the Cloud

Hi There!

I want to move my files from the Lightroom Cloud to my Mac. Will I get 30,000+ files without folder and album layout? Or will that layout be retained when transferring?

Greetings from the Netherlands,

Arno de Graaff

Have you considered changing to the photography plan and using Lightroom Classic along with Photoshop? Lightroom Classic allows you to manage all of your images on your local hard drive(s). It also integrates well with Photoshop.

It really depends on which method you decide to use to "move your files from the Cloud to your Mac". How are you planning on doing that?

The only way that you can do it while retaining your album layout would be by syncing a Lightroom Classic catalog with your cloud account. If you set that up correctly first (via the Classic Preferences>Lightroom Sync tab) you can choose a specific location AND choose a capture date-based folder structure. Once that's set, start syncing in LrC and a copy of all the images in the cloud will download into the chosen folder structure, and the album layout will be replicated (as collections) in LrC. Note that some things do not download: keywords and location data does not download, also if you have used Folders in Lightroom to organise the albums they do not transfer either (you can manually create the equivalent - Collection Sets - in LrC once the download is complete).

Note that this process is a COPY of the cloud content, if you then wish to remove all the content from the cloud there are several ways to do that....but before you do, make sure that in LrC you unsync all the collections that have been created by the download (if you leave them synced, when you delete the images from the cloud all the images would be removed from the synced collections....unsyncing them first prevents that).

However, if your intention is to exit Lightroom completely there is no automatic way of downloading the cloud content to a hard drive and retaining the album layout. The best you will get is a folder structure based on the images capture date, but album information would be lost.

Jim,

Many thanks for replying! Though I think I gave not sufficient info. I want to change my current subscription on Adobe Lightroominto a subscription on Adobe Photoshop.

In my Lightroom Cloud, I'm using about 250GB, so that won't fit into the Photoshop Cloud (= 100GB). Therefore I was thinking to downloading my current cloud content to my hard drive on my Mac. if I change my subscription on Lightroom, I'm told that everything in my Lightroom cloud would be deleted.....
