Question

My brand new machine can only run Lightroom 5.0

A few days ago, I built a new computer for myself.

MSI B650 motherboard

Ryzen 9 7900X3D CPU

Radeon RX 6700 XT GPU

64 GB memory

Win11 Home Edition

I tried installing the newest version of Lightroom (v 7.3), and it kept crashing within a few seconds of me opening the program.  All I've been able to do is scroll through an album or two before it quits.  I receive no error message.

After several tech support sessions with Adobe (remote) over a period of about 9 hours today, the best they could do is have me download Lightroom 5.0 and tell me that they've done everything they can.  They didn't see the problem with me having a 3 year old version of Lightroom on my computer.  They said I should wait a while and try downloading the next version again.

Since all of my photos up to this point have been edited using newer versions, I keep getting a warning message that says that I will lose any non-supported edits made on newer versions if I try to edit them in v 5.0.

Things tried:
Restarting computer and CC

Reinstalling CC and Lightroom (several times)

Reinstalling CPU and GPU drivers

Reinstalling Windows (without Norton Antivirus)

Installing older versions of Lightroom (7.2, 7.1, etc.)

Does anybody have any additional recommendations?  I bought this new computer largely for Lightroom, because it's a little slow on my old system.

Thank you for your help!

Hey, I wonder if you have tried Lightroom Classic (v13.x). I plan on building a very similar setup (but with an GeForce RTX 2070) also to upgrade my Lightroom performance (Exporting mostly, as other stuff like Enhance apparently uses only the GPU more or less). Cheers!
