Question

New photos being imported are a completely different colour to RAW files

I have recently updated Lightroom to V11.1 and also got a new MacBook Air. I have imported photos into Lightroom for the first time, and all the images have changed colour. When importing, I do not apply any Develop settings and the build previews are are set to 1:1. However, when I go to Develop, different colour settings and tone curve have automatically been applied to all the images. Usually, I would have double clicked on the slider for it to return to 0, but I have to manually move the slider or type in 0 to change it. How do I stop this? I have tried importing older RAW files that I have edited in an older version of Lightroom and on a different computer (which were fine), and the same thing is happening. Also, I have calibrated my computer monitor and this hasn't helped. How can I fix this urgently? Lots of editing to do!

Hi Helen,

We are sorry for the difficulty with Lightroom Classic. Please share the exact version of macOS you’re using. Please specify the file types that you are working with and specify the cameras from which the photos have been taken. Are you editing this specific set of images for the first time, or have they been processed prior? Does this also happen with any JPEG files or RAW files from other sources? Have you tried any troubleshooting steps?

While some settings are embedded within the RAW image files like Temp & Tint, which is by default.

Below is an example of a raw image which has been imported for the first time into Lightroom Classic and no adjustments have been made yet.

You can check if you are using any Import Presets from the bottom of the import dialogue box as shown below.

If you are noticing any other changes in the images, then one of the reasons could be the RAW defaults within Lightroom Classic (version 9.3 & above) which sets default settings for importing raw file format images in Lightroom Classic based on Adobe defaults, camera-specific defaults, or custom presets.

Check this article to understand, create your own default settings and troubleshoot the same.

Please let us know if this helps.

Hi Sameer,

Thank you for the link! I have figured out what the problem is - the Default settings were set to a specific preset for some reason. All fixed, thank you!
