No photos found when importing from card reader on Android

When I connect a card reader via USB-C and try to import into LR, the card and photos won't display in the import dialog. I can see photos stored on the tablet's main storage. The external card/photos are visible in OS File Manager, so the problem seems to relate to LR.

Expected result is to be able to view/import files into LR from a connected card reader.

This works on my other Android devices e.g. OnePlus Nord2 running the same versions of LR and OS, and on a dated Lenovo Table running Android 8.   

App version: 8.0.1 for Android

Plattform/version: Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 running Android v12 and One UI v 4.1.1
