Panorama Merge

I have a set of 85 photos which have to be merged for a panorama. When I merge, I am able to get a neat preview, however on merging, it says "An internal error occured" and halts.  I have over 30 GB of free space in the hard disk where the catalog files are located.

I am using Lightroom 6 on a MacPro, with OS 10.14.6. The machine has 16 GB RAM. It has Graphics AMD FirePro D3100 2 GB.

I am not sure if there is a limitation on the number of photos.  I tried merging 20+ photos and was able to get them merged into 4 DMG files.  If try merging the merged files, it is not even able to merge a preview.

Any suggestions or help on this regard, will be appreciated.

I don't know if there is an official limit, but 85 images and 16 GB RAM sounds like too much to ask. The old Lightroom 6 can only merge panoramas if the source images have the exact same dimensions, so merging them in groups and then trying the merge the resulting dng files will indeed not work, because the dng files will have different dimensions resulting from differences in overlap. I think you will probably have to export these images and then merge them in some dedicated panorama software.
