Permanently dismiss the edit controls are only available in detail view message

Recently LR started displaying a whole column on the right side when you have a photo in detail view and switch to grid view (with the G keyboard shortcut).
I am perfectly aware that The edit controls are only available in detail view. How to disable this annoyance? It should pop up once and never be shown again.

This is on macOS Monterey, LR 5/5.1.

Look at your Preferences>Interface tab, what had you got selected for the Panel Tracks setting? If it's set to "Manual" then what you are seeing is expected behaviour, i.e. the side panel will remain visible no matter what view mode (Grid or Detail) that you have selected. To hide the side panel requires you to do that manually, e.g. by clicking on the currently selected tool on the tool bar.

However, if you change the setting to "Automatic", you should get the behaviour you are looking for.

Another small issue I see having this setting at Auto, is you can't have both the Photos and edit panels both open.

Correct. "Automatic" means you can only have 0 or 1 panel showing, not both side panels. "Manual" will let you have whatever combination you wish, but the user has to manually control that. I'm pretty sure that's been the behaviour ever since the option was introduced.

Thank you! Now Lr's behavior is clear.

That's correct! I've changed it to Automatic and it's fine now. Thank you!

However, I think it didn't used to be like this. I've always had it set on manual, because I don't want my adjustments in the Edit module to constantly close and open and as far as I understand this setting controls exactly this.

Resetting the warning dialogs didn't work for me 😞

Try going to Edit> Preferences> Interface and Reset all warning dialogs and tips using the Reset button.
