photoshop re-edits not syncing in Lightroom CC (not Lightroom Classic)

I've imported photos into lightroom cc, made my lightroom adjustments, sent the photo to photoshop 2020 from lightroom cc, made photoshop edits, saved and closed photoshop, and the new tif file is now in Lightroom CC next to the original CR3 file showing my photoshop edits.  Then I notice something I either missed or want to correct in photoshop, so I open photoshop, select the edited tif file, make my adjustments, save and close, but the new edits do not sync back to lightroom cc.  I know this works in lightroom classic and I am positive this has worked before in lightroom cc for me, but the last 3 or 4 photos I've done this with, the new photoshop adjustments to the tif do not sync to lightroom cc.  Does anyone know what the issue might be?  I am using windows 10 if that matters.
