Question

previews

Can Lightroom please

  • stop endlessly filling the AppData\Local\Adobe\Lightroom CC\Data folder with previews
  • allow automatic deletion of previews after a duration of days
  • allow the user to specify in preferences another location for previews

However, isn’t it time for Lightroom to be solely a photo editor.

Please photo library management to separate systems. If a user has a better management system … and today almost certainly does … you have zero need for the Lightroom library, Lightroom cloud storage. The Lightroom library is a quaint old timey system that needs to go away.

Lightroom is a non-destructive editor. That means that the original photos are not changed, and the edits are stored as metadata. The function of the preview is to show you the edited image, so without a preview you would not be able to view that photo in Lightroom. Automatically deleting previews after a certain time could indeed be useful for people who have limited disk space. It does mean that if you view an older photo, the preview will have to be rebuilt before you can see anything.
