Problem with CR3 files - urgent support needed!

Dear All,

Im using canon EOS R5 and I was photographing an even in CR3 format.

I use Mac and I can't import those files as a RAW files unfrotuantely. When I start import there are some photos imported in JPG format for some reason. Could you kindly advise wha I can do to import RAW and be able to edit RAW, please?

Do you have the Mac Photos App opening or running?

If so this App is importing and 'hiding' the RAW files and only allowing Lightroom to show/add/import the JPG previews that the Photos App creates.

Thank you so much for your reply!

As I mentioned above...I plugged in my card reader and then opened folders on the card and then selected all and copy and paste to the folder in mac photo apps - so i copied it directly. In that folder they are saved in RAW but when import them to the Lightroom they are in JPGs.

How can I import RAWs then? Have you got any sugggestions please?

Shall I try to copy it directly from card to a desktop folder and import them from there?

Because it is a macOS package and not a folder, it is designed to not be openable by double-clicking, and not accessible from another application’s import/open dialog box. This is because the contents inside are all managed by Apple Photos, which is tracking everything in there with its database.

If you want to continue using BOTH Lightroom and the Mac Photos App- you will need to learn about the workarounds. ('Exporting' RAW originals out of the Photos package.)

What is the Lightroom and macOS version you are using? How are you importing the RAW files? Does only a set of pictures get converted to JPEGs or all the CR3 files? Are you directly importing the images from the camera or through a card reader?

Thank you for your reply.

I was trying to call adobe support but line was so bad that I couldn't hear anything. How can I speak to someone from the support?

I'm using Creative Cloud Photography plan with 1TB I have lightroom and lightroom classic intalled and I can see on my account it is up to date.

Please see below Mac I'm using:

24-inch Purple iMac with 4.5K Retina display

With the following configuration:

Apple M1 chip with 8-core CPU with 4 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores, 8-core GPU and 16-core Neural Engine

NEURAL ENGINE 065-C9GM 16-core Neural Engine

16GB unified memory

Gigabit Ethernet

I imported my RAW files by using card reader to my photo folder and then I was trying to import photos from the folder to Lightroom but that doesn't work. They has been uploaded as JPGs for some reason. All of them are imported as JPGs. I used this equipment a few months ago and didn't have any problems.

I downloaded yesterday plugin 12.4 as advised but that didn''t change anything.

Could you kindly let me know what i can do? I need to process my photos asap.

What app are you using to copy the images from the memory card to your photo folder?

Have you checked your camera to make sure you haven't inadvertently set it to shoot Jpeg instead of Raw?

A screenshot of the of the photo folder showing the images that you are trying to import world be helpful.
