buongiorno a tutti,

You fell into a very common trap caused by Adobe's terrible naming of their products. The Lightroom version you are using CANNOT use local storage such as a NAS. It stores all images in the cloud. If you use the cloud version of Lightroom (confusingly called Lightroom Desktop) and import images into it, it will first copy them all to you built-in hard drive, and then upload all images to the cloud before deleting the local copies. If your internal hard disk is not big enough to hold all the images, this process will fail.

The actual newest version of Lightroom as you knew it before is called Lightroom Classic. It is constantly updated and has all the editing features the cloud version has and many more features that the cloud version does not have (it is able to print images for example, which the cloud version cannot do). It does not sync all your images to the cloud and relies on local (or NAS) storage of your images. My guess is that this is what you actually want. The cloud version of Lightroom you are using is actually a port of the mobile operating system version of Lightroom (i.e. for Android or iOS) to desktop operating systems. It is pretty neat that it allows you to have the same images on every device but it is completely built around everything being in the cloud.

You can't. The Lightroom library.library file HAS to be on the internal hard disk. It cannot be on a NAS. If you want to use local storage for your image such as a NAS or other external hard disks, you have to use Lightroom Classic, not Lightroom Cloudy/Desktop. Lightroom 5.1 is NOT the newest version of Lightroom. It is a different, cloud-based application based of the mobile version of Lightroom. It is nice that it is able to store all your images in the cloud as that allows you to edit your images anywhere but it lacks a lot of features that are present in Classic, such as the ability to have your images on a NAS, the ability to print, etc. If you use the cloud version to import images, it first copies the images to your internal hard disk and then uploads them to the cloud. After this it deletes the images from your internal hard disk if the space is needed. You cannot make it store this temporary set of images on your internal hard disk anywhere else.

Please tell us more about your environment. Especially of your free disk space.

hi there,

I have an iMac as photo there...

[image: 2AF64683-22F9-4FED-A86E-9C14DB68E69E_4_5005_c.jpeg]

the HD is a 500GB but I have only 16,05 GB free...
283,26 GB are used from "other" and I think those are files from
Lightroom...
I have a NAS with 4 HD with 10/11 years of RAW photos... my work flow is
simply the following:
1 insert original photos insider the NAS
2 import photos by button "+ add photos"

Using the old version stand alone I never had problems but now after
installed the 5.1 version I only imported 2 years and after that it seems
there no more space in the HD (but I don't want to use space there, I have
a NAS for this).... I need to solve this situation before the 10th of
January... I need to work on a project with photos from 2010...

please let me know I'm ready in uninstall all and re-start, but I need to
solve....

Which version of MacOS and Lightroom do you use?

16GB free disk space isn't very much. You should try to increase you free space.
