Question

Radial Gradient Copy/Paste not keeping exposure settings

Hey Adobe team,

I’m running into two frustrating issues since updating to Lightroom version 8.5.1 (Windows 11, AMD Ryzen 3 5425U with Radeon Graphics).

1. Copying masks doesn’t copy exposure settings anymore.
When I copy a Radial Gradient from one image to another, it brings over the mask shape perfectly — but none of the actual settings come with it. The exposure, contrast, highlights, etc., all reset to zero on paste.

I’ve tried:

  • Copying via the Masks panel (“Copy Mask” → “Paste Mask”)

  • Copying full edit settings (Ctrl+Shift+C / Ctrl+Shift+V) with “Masks” checked

Same result either way. It used to work fine in older versions — I could paste a radial gradient and it would bring over all my exposure adjustments exactly.

2. Lightroom feels really slow now.
I've always had issues with the program being SLOW, but everything from moving sliders to switching between photos has noticeable lag; even more irritatingly slow than before. It’s especially bad when I’m working with masks. Turning off GPU acceleration helps a little, so I suspect it might be related to the integrated AMD Radeon graphics driver, but performance is still rough overall.

System info:

  • Windows 11 Home

  • AMD Ryzen 3 5425U with Radeon Graphics

  • 8GB RAM

  • Lightroom 8.5.1 x64 (Aug 21, 2025 build)

It feels like something broke with how masks are copied in this version, and the performance drop has made editing pretty painful. Would love to know if this is a known issue or if there’s a fix in the works!

Thanks for taking a look - I really rely on that copy/paste mask workflow, and it’s been a huge timesaver until now.

Hi @eryn_1062,

Thanks for sharing such a detailed description. I tried reproducing this on my end (Mac, Lightroom Classic v15.0), and the Radial Gradient copy/paste workflow correctly transfers all exposure and tonal adjustments as expected. My colleague also tested on Windows 11 and saw the same results, so it doesn’t appear to be a universal issue.

To help us dig deeper and rule out a version-specific or system-related problem, could you please try the following:
 • Update to the latest version (Lightroom Classic v15.0).
 • Once updated, retest your workflow (copying and pasting a Radial Gradient mask with exposure adjustments).
 • If the issue persists, please record a short screen capture showing the copy and paste steps and the missing exposure values.
 • Also, go to Help > System Info in Lightroom, copy everything, and paste it here.

Once we have received your recording and system information, I’ll forward it to the broader product team for review so we can verify if something in 8.5.1 caused this issue on specific hardware configurations.

Best,
