RAW format and export

How do you export your RAW image from lightroom to your desktop? In this process, you want the image to keep the dit the editing you made AND the RAW format at the same time so the file you have on your desktop is edited and in RAW.

A raw file is like the raw eggs, whereas the image is an omelet. So basically what you're asking is "How can I make eggs again from an omelet, and have the eggs be an omelet at the same time"?

You cannot 'edit' the image data in a proprietary raw file! So there is no "how"!

You can however 'Export' as a raw DNG filetype that will embed the Lr edits in the metadata, but it will only show the edited view in Adobe software (Lr, Ps) that can interpret the .xmp edits embedded in the raw DNG.

This method of Export (as DNG) can be used to embed Develop Presets that can be extracted in mobile versions of Lightroom.

Though you can also export using "Original + Settings", so if the original is a proprietary raw file the output of the export would be a copy of that raw file plus an XMP sidecar file that contains all metadata (including edits) that have been made/added in Lightroom. Note, however, that although some of the metadata in the XMP sidecar should be in a standard format, and thus readable by many other photo editors, the edit instructions will be proprietary and so as @Rob_Cullen mentions, these would only likely be readable by Adobe programs such as LR and PS.
