Hello All-

I have decided to begin the daunting task of migrating all my photos to Lightroom,  I was a committed user of Aperture for YEARS; it served me well.  I want to bring everything into Lightroom but here are my issues:

1). For some reason I have 2 Aperture libraries.  Not sure how that happened but I do.  I don't know how much overlap there is between the two libraries but I want ti import ALL the photos in both libraries.

2). As Aperture was abandoned and Apple switched to Photos I have a lot of pictures in the Photos app from shooting on my iPhone, receiving pictures from my kids and friend that I saved into the Photos app on my phone etc....

So basically I have 3 libraries of photos (2 in Aperture; 1 in Photos) with 10's of thousands of photos in Aperture and a couple of thousand pictures in Photos.

So here are my questions:

1). Can someone give me some guidance as to the best way to import these different libraries into Lightroom?

2). Will Lightroom eliminate any and all duplicates (if there are any) in the 2 Aperture libraries upon import?

3). Will Lightroom recognize and accept the changes made to the photos in Aperture and keep those changes?

4). Will Lightroom recognize the 'Faces' data from both Aperture and Photos?

5). Will Lightroom recognize the geotagging from both Aperture and Photos?

I appreciate any and all guidance as I begin this process.  I realize it will not be perfect and that there will be some pain and potentially a lot of work to get my photos "in shape" as it were in Lightroom but I really want to do this.

All help/guidance is GREATLY appreciated...

Thx!

    There are two versions:

    Lightroom

    Lightroom Classic

I’m guessing with a large library you mean Lightroom Classic as Lightroom stores all originals in the cloud.

The migration tool will transfer lots of data to corresponding fields in Lightroom Classic and you should be able to migrate the two Aperture libraries separately. But you need to decide whether to create full size jpeg previews which will be stacked with your unedited raw files. This can be useful unless you really want to start over with your editing in Lightroom Classic.

For the Apple Photos app it’s probably best to export copies to the desktop or a named folder and then import the duplicates into Lightroom.
