Remove mask is not always selectable

Question

Cannot always select remove button in the mask section. If you push the remove button in mask the add button is selected and the selection is added instead of subtracted, this happens to all available selection types. When Lightroom is restarted this issue is resolved

What version of Lightroom Classic and macOS are you using?

Would you mind sharing the screenshot of the Layer Panel?

Does this happen with any specific image or with all the images?

You might have accidentally selected a different mask overlay. Try changing the mask overlay mode to 'Color overlay' and check if the masks are inverted when created.
