The demo in lightroom shows you can select a plane and it disapears. How do you do this? I selected an object, but then I can't get rid of it.

Are you sure it wasn't a Photoshop demo? Lightroom can remove an object with its three cloning/healing tools, and it has object recognition, but these are two different functions. Object recognition and selection is part of its masking tools, not its healing tools.
