Reverse Order in Photo Grid is not maintained

I am using Lightroom (Cloud-based) for macOS, version 9.3.1. This bug has been present for a long time.

Default Capture Date sort order in Photo Grid is newest first, oldest last (reverse chronological order). The Sort menu shows this:

I prefer oldest first and newest last (chronological order). I can change it using the Sort menu:

But when I follow this sequence:

  1. Create a filter for some images.
  2. Delete all images selected by the filter.
  3. Select Turn Off Filters.

The photos are now shown in newest first (reverse chronological) order, even though the Sort menu is still set as for chronological.

This is a bug. I can select Reverse Order twice to get the Photo Grid to display in the order I want but it should not change the order.

Hi Rikk, I followed your instructions and reset preferences, then quit and restarted Lightroom. The local storage location has not changed: ~/Pictures/Lightroom Library.lrlibrary

I did some experiments and found that my issue still occurs for a set of photos under Recently Added. If I start with the grid for an album or for a date or date range, the issue does not occur.

I still believe it is a bug, but it only applies to a set of photos under Recently Added.

I am unable to reproduce this behavior with the provided instructions.

I would recommend resetting your preferences to see if will cure the problem.

This procedure works for both Lightroom Classic and Lightroom Desktop.

If you are using Lightroom Desktop, it can change your local storage location. Please review this setting after resetting preferences.

    Reset Procedure:

    1. Close Lightroom.

    2. Hold down [Alt/Opt]+[Shift] while restarting Lightroom.

    3. Overwrite the Preferences when prompted by the dialog.

    4. Close Lightroom.

    5. Restart Lightroom.
