Question

Roundtrip LR PS using a Mac

I have a new Mac. When taking an image from Lightroom (cloud version) to Photoshop if I make any edits in Photoshop the image gets converted to a .psd file and I can't save it back in Lightroom only

in the Photoshop cloud. There does not seem any way to convert to tiff and when then clicking "close" sending the image back to Lightroom. Is this an issue with Photoshop or am I missing a step here. Help!  This was not an issue on my old Windows pc.

Start again with some information about your Apps and system setup.

In the Lightroom top menu go-  {Help > System Info...} and paste a screen-clip in your post using the [Insert Photos] icon above the post window.

And are both Lightroom and Photoshop 'up to date' ?

What Camera Raw version does Photoshop report? {Help > About Plugins > Camera Raw...}

"...open the edit dialog box..." ? There is no dialog box that opens in Lightroom! The {Menu > File > Edit in Photoshop..} should simply 'open' the image directly in Photoshop as a TIF.

And if you use [Save] and [Close] you should not be asked "to save in the cloud or on the pc."

Regards. My System: Windows-11, Lightroom-Classic 15.1.1, Photoshop 27.3.1, ACR 18.1.1, Lightroom 9.0, Lr-iOS 10.4.0, Bridge 16.0.2 .

What do you mean by- "taking an image from Lightroom"? And what type of file?

"the image gets converted to a .psd file"- How could this happen? Are you "taking" a .psd file out to Ps?

If you use the default [File > Edit in Photoshop... ]  then Photoshop will create a TIF by default that automatically appears back in the Lightroom Catalog when you [Save]. It will be stacked with the 'original'.

Do not use [Save as] to create a PSD. Any file saved by any method other than [Save] will not appear in the Catalog, but will need to be imported/added from a local folder.

To be clear, I open the edit dialog box in Lightroom and click on "Edit in Photoshop " which opens Photoshop and transfers the file over. Any editing I do while in Photoshop seems to converts the file to a PSD format. In my old Windows system, sending that file back to Lightroom was done by hitting "close" and "save". But that does not appear to happen on my new Mac (desktop). It asks if I want to save in the cloud or on the pc. The "cloud" is the Photoshop cloud not Lightroom.   I will try your method to see if that has any impact. Thanks.
