"select sky" - how do I apply the mask to the photo?

Hi,

I am completely new to Lightroom. I tried to adjust the colour of the sky in one of my photos using the masking tool "select sky". I can easily see the adjustments when I click the mask, but when I return to the album, the adjustments do not show through. What do I do wrong?
