Selective edit in lightroom - only changes saturation

On my windows 11 version of Lightroom (recently updated) 

if I choose to say increase exposure or shadow etc on a Selective edit, then any change I make will only create a black and white edit in that area. Lightroom Classic is fine. 
any suggestions please
