Sharing LR with a spouse!

My wife and I each own a Macbook Air and iphone for taking the vast majority of our photos.  We want to combine our photos from each of our iPhones into one LR catalog for purposes of creating books, storing edited photos on our phones etc.  Both of us will want to access LR on our individual computers, though probably not at the same time.  We have about 20,000 photos total. Each of our phones are backed up via Apple’s iCloud to each of our computers so pictures from phones are easily accessible via each of our MacBooks.

One solution, I think, is to purchases a 4 TB hard drive and store both LR and photos  on there.  I would buy the monthly 20 gb subscription plan from Adobe which includes both LR Classic and PhotoShop for my LR plan.

When necessary (probably weekly in our case unless there is a special project we are working on), sync that 4 TB hard drive with each of our laptops so the most recent photos from each of our phones is added to LR.

By moving the Hard Drive between our computers, each of us could access LR on our own computers for our own or joint projects.

Is this the best current solution for sharing?

Or would I be better off upgrading the 20gb  LR plan to a TB and storing all photos on Adobes Cloud storage?  A tad more expensive….but that’s ok if an easier solution. But it will still need to be updated with each of our MacBook photo libraries weekly or such.

Help?

LRCC (cloud version) would probably offer the best solution but at present there is no team solution although Adobe is working on it. That would probably not be applicable to a couple so a shared Adobe ID would be necessary. A further complication is if you intend to reference the same images already in iCloud. I guess you are not sharing a single Apple ID. In the end you would need to decide on Apple or Adobe unless you can manage the discipline of duplicate files.

Agreed with Jon that Lr CC may be the best option for storage and sharing, but doesn't have the Book Module, although Photos from the Cloud will Sync back to Classic (with sync on).

Sorting wise, if most of your Photos are taken with your iPhones, then in Lr CC on your phone you could have 'Auto Add' turned on for an Album with your name. And likewise on your wife's phone, have an Album with her name and have 'Auto Add' turned on for that. You may be doing this already though.

    Good Luck with your decision.
