"Some Items Invalid": Lightroom lost my photos, both Cloud & Backup

I had some very worrying issues today with Lightroom CC (I don't use Classic).

- First, some photos of mine started to show with horizontal or vertical "glitchy stripes", all messed up. These are older photos that I successfully imported, edited and exported month ago without any issue. I found copies of the RAW files for the affected album in my local Lightroom backup. I was able to export the settings, delete the bad photos, and reimport the RAW files with the correct settings. Phew!
- Then, I got a sync error saying "Some Items Invalid". 145 other photos are missing from my library. I DIDN'T EVEN TOUCH THEM. They are several years old! Some are wedding pictures, which I never delete. Ro make things worse, the files, AND OTHERS which are not marked as "syncing issues", seem to be missing from even my Local Lightroom backup (MacOS)! WTF?

Does that mean we can't trust either the Adobe Cloud, nor the Lightroom backup feature? I am appalled that a paid service could be that untrustworthy. Please help—I hope this is a temporary issue in some data center.

We should be able to resolve this issue by having you reset the sync labels for these assets. The steps are fairly easy.

  1. First, select all 100+ assets that are in an invalid state. There should be a Search filter that they can use to see all "invalid" images.
  2. Select all of the problem images.
  3. Open the Info Panel (the (i) icon in the right-hand bar).
  4. Hold down the Option key and click on the sync icon under the Sync Status section, which is at the bottom. In the screenshot, the sync icon is the little checkmark circle icon before the "Synced and Backed Up" text.
  5. A dialog will appear, asking if the user wants to force sync the images. Hit "Retry" to proceed

Let us know how the operation goes and if the situation reverts again to the previous state.

Thanks!

It worked like a charm! Thank you so much. I'll remember it, and tell you if the issue returns.

Cheers!

I have a couple of additional requests from engineering:

We would like a Diagnostic Log and a Sync Issues Report.

For LrDesktop:

Go to Preferences

Account Section

Hold down the [Opt/Alt] key to make the [Diagnostic Log]  and the  [Sync Issues] buttons appear

The logs will likely be too large to attach here. It is recommended to post them to a file-sharing service like Dropbox or similar and then provide us the link.

Thanks!

Received and passed on to engineering.  Please leave the files in place for a week or two.

Greetings,

Engineering asks if you can see the errant photos in Lightroom Web. Can you log in at https://lightroom.adobe.com and verify the file(s) is/are present and undamaged?

Next, if you can locate these damaged files, can you create a test album and drag a few images in and then share the album link with me in a Private Message - subject line "Damaged Files".

I will have the files reviewed.

Thanks!
