Starting over with CC
I'm a long time Lightroom Classic user, and am still having problems incorporating Lightroom CC.
At the moment I have both Classic and CC and have originals on my local hard drive and in the Cloud. The local originals are what you'd expect from someone who has been using the Classic product. I'm having extreme issues with the sync process in Classic. This process all but freezes Classic and never completes (I've waited over a day). Looking at the log I see lots of errors and I'm imagining that the errors are behind the performance problems. I'd like to just start over - clean slate.
There are about 20K photos, so I don't want to make a mistake. Here's what I think I need to do:
- Within Classic I see a "delete all synced data" button. The button takes me to my CC web page, and it offers me the chance to delete the data. Although it's pretty clear, I want to confirm that this will delete the Cloud aspects of my Lightroom account, and that the local (Classic) stuff will be unaffected. Can someone please confirm this.
- More to the point, I now want to start over. I would like the end result to be that I MOVE the Classic on disk catalog to the Cloud, and that I create ONLY ONE local - backup - copy of these files (when I did this last time I got two copies: the local copy in the location that I named under the "create local ..." box, and the original location.
- As I understand it, the best scenario is to import the photos into CC, and to let the sync process copy smart previews to Classic. With what I have above - meaning that there are already full originals on my hard disk, how do I avoid two copies?
Can someone please confirm that I'm planning the right thing? If there's an article I need to read, please let me know. I realize there's been plenty of confusion about this and I'm sure I'm among many who are confused. I someone's already written on this I'd love to benefit.
Thanks in advance,
Gary
