Sync Questions

I'll try to keep this short - but I am lost in my syncing world and not sure what to do next:

Wanting to try LR CC I first migrated my images to the cloud. Now I want to go back to LR Classic as my primary editing tool. But even after merging catalogs in LRC, and enabling Sync, I still do not see all of the images in LR Classic that I see in LR CC. How do I make sure all of the cloud images are available in LR Classic? BTW, not wanting to lose my images somehow, I used Adobe Downloader and downloaded all of my cloud images in my local machine. In this case there were about 30,000 images, but in LRCC there are about 20,000 images. I don't understand this. I am really just trying to start clean and would like to use both LR CC and LR Classic if possible. Thanks.

First I want to thank you for taking the time to respond. I am now
realizing the errors of my ways: you are right, I should never have
migrated my LR Classic to the cloud. I was thinking at the time that LR
Classic could access cloud images.

I have now decided to use Lightroom as my primary editor and wait for it to
eventually have the same capabilities as Classic. So as of today I am using
Lightroom Desktop, which I think is about the same as LR Mobile in the
sense that they are both using cloud based images. I hope this is the
case, if not then please correct me.

Yes...Lightroom desktop, Lightroom Mobile and Lightroom Web are all part of the one "cloud ecosystem", so anything done in one will sync via the cloud to all the others. Lightroom Classic is not a full member of that ecosystem, so can only get partially involved and some things just will not sync between Classic and the cloud.

What are the actual versions numbers of Lightroom Classic and the Lightroom desktop app are you using (there's no app called LRCC any longer, CC was dropped from all Abobe apps several years ago).

In the synced Lightroom Classic catalog, what are the actual counts of All Photographs and All Synced Photographs, and in Lightroom what is the All Photos count?

A couple of comments:

1. "Migration" is intended as a tool to be used only when the user wants to switch totally from Classic the the cloud, it really isn't something we should be doing when we just want to "try" Lightroom first. There are much easier ways of trying Lightroom without going all-in via migration.

2. The last time I tested the Downloader it would generate an additional jpeg for each edited jpeg in the cloud, i.e. the original edited jpeg would be in the unedited state (because Lightroom doesn't change original files), and the additional jpeg would effectively be an exported version of the original but would have the edits baked in. So it's entirely possible that the number of images downloaded would be greater than the number of images in the cloud library. Also, any edited raw files that you have in the cloud should also have an associated XMP sidecar file produced by the Downloader.
