Sync Status Indicator Missing

I recently migrated my LrC catalog to Lr (cloud).  On my desktop where I did the migration, in the Grid view, the Sync Status indicator is correct showing synced and backed up locally (green dot with down arrow)..  

On my laptop there is nothing.  I wouldn't expect a green dot since there is no local backup, but I would expect something.

 Except, if I make an edit (in this case changed the flag rating), I get a temporary sync status that goes away as soon as I am synced.

 This doesn't look like the expected bahavior.

Both computers are running Lr 7.3 and the latest macOS.
