Question

Synching between lightroom mobile and classic

I am coming back to using lightroom classic and mobile on my ipad, but am getting confused.  I thought that I controlled what was synced by putting into collections (albums on mobile?) and switching synch on or off.  I have just switched from my old imac to my macbook and had to switch catelogues.  I think I made a mistake of allowing the old photos to synch.  Anyway in the albums I have a 100 or so photos, but my synch dialogue shows over 13000!!! I checked on my lightroom mobile and as well as the albums I have something called all photos and it is this that has 13000!!!  They are all photos I recognise but don't know why they are synching.  How do I delete them from the cloud!  I have no idea where the original photos are from, will it be lightroom classic or my camera roll on icloud?  I have looked at some videos but still confused.

You can control what syncs UP to Lr from LrC by only marking specific Collections to sync. (Only Proxy / Smart Previews sync UP.)

You cannot control what syncs DOWN to LrC from Lr.  When you turn on [Sync] in LrC- every Lr file downloads. (to a folder you can specify in Preferences/Lightroom Sync.)

So if you have 13000 photos in Lightroom (Cloud), then 13000 will sync down to LrC when Sync is turned 'on' in LrC.

Regards. My System: Windows-11, Lightroom-Classic 15.1.1, Photoshop 27.3.1, ACR 18.1.1, Lightroom 9.0, Lr-iOS 10.4.0, Bridge 16.0.2 .

Thank you for your prompt response.  What I think has happened then is that in the past I set all my apple photo roll to synch to Lightroom cloud.  I have now switched this off on my phone and ipad. ( I need to clear out what is on my camera roll but that is a seperate issue).!  So a couple of follow on questions if that is OK.  First how do I delete the photos in lightroom cloud (not the actual ones on the camera roll or icloud).  Also is there a way of setting an album in apple photos to synch, rather than none or all photos?

Really appreciate the help you have given so far, I was getting really frustrated, whereas once I get my head around it, think it will be really good.

Assuming that all the images that you want to remove from the cloud have already synced down into Lightroom Classic, the most complete way to do that would be by removing them from Lightroom Classic itself. Yes, you could delete them from within any of the Lightroom apps and that will remove them from the Adobe Cloud, BUT they will still remain in Lightroom Classic (they are "unsynced" in LrC, but not removed from the catalog). Whereas if you select them in LrC and either remove them from the catalog or, if you want to keep them in LrC but removed from the cloud, you can simply remove them from the All Synced Photographs special collection that you will find in LrC's Catalog panel. Either of those 2 actions will result in the images being deleted from the Adobe cloud and thus from the Lightroom apps. All of which has no effect on the images in the Camera Roll (Lightroom has no authority to delete images from that), so they will remain there.

No, there's no way to set an album in Apple Photos to auto-synch, though you can manually import images into LrM from a specific album in Photos.
