Question

Syncing edits from tablet to desktop fails sometimes

I mainly edit on my iPad and the syncing back to light room CC on the desktop is so temperamental. Currently have the images have been synced but the other half haven't, but the CC says it's up to date (syncing). It's so frustrating. Anyone know a work around that doesn't involve me re editing on the desktop?

Which version are you using on the desktop? Is it Lightroom Desktop (i.e. the cloud version) or what is now called Lightroom Classic? The latter has the task bar with tabs like Library, Develop, Print, etc. Lightroom Desktop doesn't have those.

Syncing from the cloud app or the iPad app only happens after you close out of an image (go back to the grid view) and then only very sluggishly as you have noticed. From Classic it happens after every edit but it only notices changes to images when it polls the servers which can take a minute. Similarly, it might take a minute before all devices notice a change as the changes are clearly not actively pushed to the devices but only get noticed when the app on your device asks the servers whether any changes happened. It is not constantly polling for updates clearly but only checks once in a while so what you are observing is likely as designed. It does cause the problem that if you have an image open on two devices only the edits on the last to sync its changes to the cloud are retained. So data loss can occur if you have your library open on two devices and you are actively editing on both.

I have both lightroom (cloud based) and light room classic (desktop) I upload my raw images in classic (desktop) and allow the sync to take place to light room (cloud based). I then edit my images on the iPad mainly.

however, when I come to export, I ofcourse need to revert back to desktop. But my edits which should have synced from the cloud based light room, onto the light room classic (desktop) have not. I have allowed these images days now, half have the edited image, and the other half of images are not synced with the editing I have done in the cloud based lightroom.

It certainly shouldn't take days! That does indicate a problem with your cloud library. Unfortunately the only way to solve that that I have heard is often to completely reset and wipe the cloud libary. That is a very inconvenient solution of course. You might try unsyncing everything in Classic and resyncing just those images you need.

Do you see all your iPad edits on LrWeb? https://lightroom.adobe.com/
From what I can see with our server-side diagnostics, it looks like that Lr on your desktop machine has network connection issues. Is this what you are seeing on the desktop side?  - Guido/ LR QE

  1. Hi, yes I can see them on the link you've provided. However I don't believe I have connection issues on LRC. I have gone to 3 different properties, attempted to sync lightroom at all 3, none of them have been successful. My current internet/ server is fibre optic and all my other apps, streaming and devices are running flawlessly. It seems to be just light room specially.
