Question

The app is hanging and slow on Macbook Pro M1 Max

I recently switched to Lightroom CC from Capture One, and the desktop app has been a real pain to work with. It will constantly hang, and it seems to consume massive amounts of CPU and memory. When on battery, it will drain my MacBook Pro battery within an hour of basic editing.

There is no pattern to the hanging; it can occur when simply viewing local images or when editing images in the cloud. What is constant is the hanging and overall slowness; even scrolling the edit panel can be slow and jumpy, making the whole thing such a pain to work with."

This can't be right, compared with Capture One it is unusable.

Hey, @47336484. Welcome to the Lightroom Community. Thanks for adding the system info; it helps.

Try these steps to get Lightroom to launch:

  • Reset Lightroom by holding the OPT + SHIFT when you launch Lightroom and select 'Yes'.
  • Ensure Lightroom has the required permissions on macOS: https://adobe.ly/3DyUwsz

In a recent conversation, disabling Animated Hover Tips from Lightroom > Preferences > Interface, and under the HELP section addressed a similar issue here: https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-ecosystem-cloud-based-discussions/export-causes-a-system-hang/td-p/15628973

Let me know if this helps.

Thanks!
