Thousands of photos disappeared after upgrade to LR Desktop 8.4

Before upgrading, LR correctly reported over 100K photos next to "All Photos" in the left sidebar. I keep originals on this Mac Studio M1 and can confirm there are still 106,130 photo files on disc.

However, after upgrading, LR now reports my library has only 50,732 photos.

And many folders seem to be "messed up" in almost an opposite sense: they report having photos, as they should, but the grid view is empty (no filters enabled—screenshot attached).

This is a serious problem.

Those steps were simple and did indeed fix it. Thanks much.

We'd like to connect a Sync Issues and a Diagnostic Log from you.

For LrDesktop

Go to Preferences

Account Section

Hold down the [Opt/Alt] key to make [Diagnostic Log], [Sync Issues] buttons appear.

Let me know when you have them uploaded to a share service.

Thanks!

If you log in at https://lightroom.adobe.com, what is the count shown in the Lightroom Web version?

Thanks for the fast reply. Like my phone, the web shows the correct 102,182 count. I'm guessing some kind of settings cache is wrong on my Mac? I did log out of Creative Cloud and log back in on my Mac but it came back still showing the errors noted above.

That is encouraging. I've consulted one of our engineers on the topic. If you can wait for a response, that would be great.  If not, I can walk you through a potential correction.

A couple other notes: cloud storage shows "Synced and Backed Up." It also shows the same, dramatically wrong 50,732 photo count but seems to show the same amount of used cloud storage as before, 2TB out of 3TB.

One other thing I just noticed: LR on my iPhone still shows the correct 102,182 photo count
