Time Machine Backup: Will it Suffice for Back Up Copies of Photos?

I have to trade in my Mac for some repairs.  I just did a Time Machine Backup, will this suffice for saving all my old photos, about 5,000 of them, or should I manually export each one to an external harddrive (the same one I used for Time Machine?).  I certainly don't want to lose my old work.   Thank You. 

I'd also like to sync these photos to my online editor on the cloud, but can't seem to get more recent ones on there!  So frustrating!  Thank You for your Time.
