Tips to speeding up very slow Lightroom?

I am using Lightroom cloud version on PC (however I'm not using the cloud, just Local) to edit RAW photos but it is incredibly slow, even slowing other apps on laptop, which is a new Microsoft Surface Laptop 5 (12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-1245U, and Intel Iris XE integrated graphics). Surely a new laptop can run lightroom? Is there some way to create smart previews like in Lightroom Classic?

The images are located on the computers internal hard drive (which are also backed up through OneDrive), accessed in lightroom in the "Local" tab. It does seem to get slower the more photos in a folder I edit (photos shown in a row down the bottom).

I'm wondering if its slow because I'm trying to edit the full RAW file when I should be just editing some sort of preview instead?

Any tips to speed up LR would be appreciated.

Hey, @Yorke381713789qjv. Welcome to the Lightroom Community. I'll try to help you figure this out.

While this device may perform fine at moderate usage. A device with a discrete GPU is recommended for RAW edits & bulk processing. You can try a few things to ensure a smooth workflow.

While using Lightroom, try to keep the laptop plugged into power so that the device can draw the highest power & perform faster.

Set up your Windows device's power profiles from the battery icon in the taskbar to improve performance while plugged in. Here is a series of things that you can go through as a checklist to optimize your workflow in Lightroom:
