Trying to delete photos from Lightroom

I am trying to cull a wedding gallery right now and as I am trying to delete the photo will become darker in the catalog (still visible) but still appear in the catalog but also in the deleted folder. I have tried to reset both my desktop and lightroom and when I restart it, it will usually delete the first 2-3 photos and then stop deleting.
