Unability to update due to the OS I run

Question

Hi all,

I am not a pro.

I cannot update anymore some apps of my Creative Cloud because my system is "not compatible" (mainly Lightroom classic and Ligthroom for could). My computer is no more compatible with more recent versions of mac OS.

I use a 27" iMac, quite powerful for my personal use (48 Go RAM). I bought it in 2017, and run Ventura 13.7.8. I do not intend to replace it; it works flawlessly, and is still faster than more modern computers for stacking astrophotos.

Would the unability to update infringe my possibility to keep using the version of LR I am still able to run in the future ?

Not really, there are plenty of users quite successfully running older Lightroom versions on older Operating System versions. Obviously you miss out on the newer features, but you know that. The only issue you might have in the future is if for some reason you need to re-install Lightroom on the same computer with the same unsupported operating system. In that situation you would be unable to install it via the Creative Cloud app, your only option would be to contact Adobe Customer Support to see if they are able to provide help.

Unfortunately yes, Apple and Adobe has team up to make sure you have to keep upgrading your system even when it still works just fine.

I also have an older iMac that works perfectly, but has been blocked from using Adobe software due to its age.

I was forced to buy a new computer in order to be able to use the software, totally unethical.

The only way is to prevent your computer from connecting to the Internet so that it won't sync to Adobe cloud.

Or you can use the limited web version of Lightroom via the web browser.

I also have a 2024 PC budget laptop that I keep around, it can run Lightroom just fine, but the virus Creative Cloud brings it to its knees.

The virus of Creative Cloud is another way Adobe is making sure you keep buying new computers.

Lightroom is not that demanding and can be run with limited resources, but Creative Cloud is like a virus, it is always running in the background, no way to kill it or make it stop and it hog down all your computer resources.

So Adobe and Apple are in it together, the only solution is to learn a different software, find a stand alone editor that can do most of what you need and abandon Creative Cloud virus and it's monthly subscription.

I doubt you will get many responses from the fans here, everyone knows it is a crime but none wants to talk about it
